Venusaur in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset, Mega & How to Get
Venusaur is one of the most reliable bulky Grass-types in Pokemon Champions. Its Mega Evolution, with the Thick Fat ability, turns it into one of the format's stickiest defensive pivots, while the base form doubles as a sun sweeper through Chlorophyll. This guide covers Venusaur's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Venusaur has balanced bulk and a strong 100 in both offensive stats. Mega Venusaur trades nothing for huge defensive gains, reaching 123 Defense and 120 Special Defense while keeping its 122 Special Attack. The 80 base Speed sits in an awkward middle tier, so most builds either invest in bulk and pivot or run sun + Chlorophyll to flip the Speed problem entirely.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Venusaur | 80 | 82 | 83 | 100 | 100 | 80 | 525 |
| Mega Venusaur | 80 | 100 | 123 | 122 | 120 | 80 | 625 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Overgrow (Venusaur) — powers up Grass moves by 50% when HP drops below one third. A passive bonus rather than a build-around.
- Chlorophyll (Venusaur) — doubles Speed in harsh sunlight. This is the build-around ability: under sun, Venusaur outruns most of the field and becomes a genuine special sweeper.
- Thick Fat (Mega Venusaur) — halves incoming Fire and Ice damage, erasing two weaknesses and softening common coverage.
Best Moveset
Venusaur's movepool is deep. For Regulation M-A doubles, the standout options are:
Bulky Mega pivot
- Sludge Bomb — reliable Poison STAB with a chance to poison.
- Energy Ball or Giga Drain — Grass STAB; Giga Drain adds longevity.
- Sleep Powder — premier disruption; sleeping a threat at team preview can decide games.
- Protect — doubles staple for scouting and stalling Tailwind/Trick Room turns.
Sun sweeper (Chlorophyll)
- Growth — doubles Attack and Special Attack in sun.
- Weather Ball — becomes a 100-power Fire move under sun, covering Venusaur's own Grass weaknesses.
- Energy Ball + Sludge Bomb or Earth Power — STAB and coverage.
Other notable tools in its learnset include Leech Seed, Knock Off, Helping Hand, Grassy Glide (priority under Grassy Terrain), Leaf Storm, and Tera Blast.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Mega Venusaur wants to maximise its already-excellent bulk:
- Bulky pivot: heavy HP investment, then split the rest into Special Defense with a defensive Stat Alignment (boost a defense, lower Attack or Speed).
- Sun sweeper: invest in Special Attack and enough Speed to make the Chlorophyll doubling count, with a Speed- or SpA-boosting Alignment.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Mega Venusaur is a defensive anchor. Thick Fat plus huge special bulk lets it wall a large slice of the special attackers in the format, while Sleep Powder gives it proactive disruption that most walls lack. It pairs well with partners that appreciate a sponge for Fire and Ice attacks, and with redirection support so it can click Sleep Powder safely.
The base form is a different deck entirely: on a sun team it becomes a fast, hard-hitting Growth sweeper that turns its Speed weakness into a strength. Both roles are viable — pick based on whether your team wants a wall or a win condition.
Evolution Line
Bulbasaur → Ivysaur (Level 16) → Venusaur (Level 36). Venusaur Mega Evolves by holding Venusaurite.
