Hydrapple in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get
Hydrapple is a bulky Grass/Dragon special attacker in Pokemon Champions that combines 106 HP and 110 Defense with a strong 120 Special Attack and a choice of two excellent abilities: the Speed-control gimmick Supersweet Syrup or the relentless pivoting of Regenerator. This guide covers Hydrapple's stats, type matchups, abilities, best moveset, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Hydrapple is built like a tank that punches: 106 HP and 110 Defense up front, a 120 Special Attack behind it, and only 80 Special Defense and a slow 44 Speed to manage. That low Speed makes it a natural Trick Room attacker and a comfortable Regenerator pivot. The single Grass/Dragon form means the matchup block below covers all of its weaknesses.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hydrapple | 106 | 80 | 110 | 120 | 80 | 44 | 540 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Regenerator — restores a third of Hydrapple's HP whenever it switches out. With its high HP and bulk this makes it a tireless pivot that can keep coming back to attack, redirect, or set up.
- Supersweet Syrup — the first time Hydrapple enters battle, it lowers the evasion of both opponents. A small, one-time accuracy edge for the team.
- Sticky Hold — prevents Hydrapple's held item from being stolen or knocked off. Niche, but it keeps a key Berry or item safe.
Best Moveset
Hydrapple wants STAB, a boost, and recovery. For Regulation M-A doubles:
Nasty Plot bulky attacker
- Nasty Plot — +2 Special Attack turns its already-strong 120 into a real threat.
- Giga Drain — Grass STAB that heals, extending Hydrapple's bulk even further.
- Draco Meteor or Dragon Pulse — Dragon STAB; Draco Meteor for a one-off nuke, Dragon Pulse for repeatable damage.
- Earth Power — coverage for Steel and Fire that resist its STABs.
Regenerator pivot
- Giga Drain + Dragon Pulse — dual STAB to chip while pivoting.
- Yawn — force switches or a sleep, great disruption from a slow body.
- Recover or Protect — top up HP, or scout and stall a turn.
Other tools include Leaf Storm, Hydro Pump, Energy Ball, Grassy Glide (priority under Grassy Terrain), Earthquake, Outrage, Reflect and Tera Blast.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Hydrapple wants Special Attack plus HP to make the most of Nasty Plot while staying bulky, with an SpA- or HP-leaning Stat Alignment. Its 44 Speed is best left low for Trick Room rather than fought against. Tune the Level 50 numbers in the PikaChampions team builder.
Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Hydrapple is a bulky special breaker that picks its identity from its ability. As a Regenerator pivot it never really wears down: it switches in, heals a third of its HP on the way out, and keeps returning to fire off Giga Drain and Dragon Pulse, set up Yawn, or click Nasty Plot behind a partner. Its 106/110 physical bulk lets it eat neutral hits while it boosts, and Giga Drain plus Recover give it more longevity than most attackers. The catch is a long weakness list — Ice, Dragon, Fairy, Bug, Poison and Flying all hit it hard — and a slow 44 Speed, so it shines most under Trick Room or alongside redirection and screen support that buys it the turn it needs to boost and take over.
Evolution Line
Applin → Dipplin (use a Syrupy Apple) → Hydrapple (level up while it knows the move Dragon Cheer). Hydrapple does not Mega Evolve.
