Houndoom in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset, Mega & How to Get
Houndoom is a fast Dark/Fire special attacker in Pokemon Champions that pairs a wide special movepool with the disruptive Flash Fire ability. Mega Houndoom takes that further with Solar Power and a blistering 140 Special Attack and 115 Speed under sun. This guide covers Houndoom's stats, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Base Houndoom is built for offense: 110 Special Attack and 95 Speed behind frail 75/50/80 bulk. Mega Houndoom climbs to 140 Special Attack and 115 Speed while nearly doubling its Defense to 90, making it both faster and a touch sturdier. Neither form wants to take hits, but both outspeed a large slice of the field.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Houndoom | 75 | 90 | 50 | 110 | 80 | 95 | 500 |
| Mega Houndoom | 75 | 90 | 90 | 140 | 90 | 115 | 600 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Early Bird (Houndoom) — wakes from sleep twice as fast. Situational.
- Flash Fire (Houndoom) — grants immunity to Fire moves and boosts its own Fire damage by 50% when hit by one. Strong in doubles for soaking a partner's spread Fire or an opponent's Heat Wave.
- Unnerve (Houndoom) — stops foes from eating their Berries; minor utility.
- Solar Power (Mega Houndoom) — raises Special Attack by 50% in harsh sunlight at the cost of HP each turn, turning it into a glass-cannon nuke on sun teams.
Best Moveset
Houndoom is a special attacker that loves a free turn. For Regulation M-A doubles:
Nasty Plot special attacker
- Nasty Plot — doubles Special Attack and makes either form a sweeper.
- Heat Wave — spread Fire STAB that hits both opponents; the bread-and-butter doubles move.
- Dark Pulse — Dark STAB with a flinch chance.
- Protect — doubles staple for safety and Solar Power damage management.
Coverage and disruption
- Sludge Bomb — coverage for Fairy-types that wall its Dark STAB.
- Snarl — lowers both foes' Special Attack, a support option that also chips.
- Will-O-Wisp / Taunt — burn physical attackers or shut down setup and support.
- Sucker Punch — priority to pick off faster, weakened threats.
Other tools include Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Foul Play, Shadow Ball, Hyper Voice, Helping Hand, and Tera Blast.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Houndoom goes all-in on speed and power:
- Mega sweeper: max Special Attack and Speed to leverage the 140/115 line, with a Speed- or SpA-boosting Stat Alignment. On a sun team, Solar Power makes the damage frightening.
- Base attacker: the same offensive split; with Flash Fire it can pivot in on a partner's Heat Wave for a free Fire boost.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Houndoom is a fast, spread-damage special attacker with built-in synergy. Flash Fire lets it stand next to a Fire-spamming partner and absorb their Heat Wave for a damage boost, while throwing out its own spread Heat Wave to pressure both opponents at once. Mega Houndoom, especially under sun with Solar Power, hits hard enough to threaten OHKOs after a single Nasty Plot, and its 115 Speed clears most of the unboosted field. The cost is its paper-thin defenses and a Dark/Fire typing weak to common Water, Ground, Rock, and Fighting attacks, so Houndoom plays best as a late-game cleaner or a Snarl/Taunt disruptor that comes in on a predicted Fire move rather than a Pokemon you leave on the field to trade hits.
