Garganacl in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get
Garganacl is one of the stickiest defensive Pokemon in Pokemon Champions and a top-tier physical wall in Regulation M-A. A monstrous 130 Defense, reliable Recover, and the status-proofing Purifying Salt ability let it sit on the field for turn after turn while Salt Cure grinds bulky threats down. This guide covers Garganacl's stats, type matchups, abilities, best moveset, an SP spread, its competitive role, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Garganacl is built around defense: 100 HP and a huge 130 Defense make it extremely hard to break physically, backed by a solid 90 Special Defense. The 35 Speed is intentionally slow, which suits a wall and works well under Trick Room. With only 45 Special Attack it leans on its physical 100 Attack and on chip damage rather than raw offense.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Garganacl | 100 | 100 | 130 | 45 | 90 | 35 | 500 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Purifying Salt — Garganacl cannot be afflicted by any status condition, and it halves the damage it takes from Ghost-type moves. This is the marquee ability: immunity to burn, paralysis, sleep and poison makes it a nightmare for status-reliant teams, and the Ghost resistance shores up one of its few soft spots.
- Sturdy — guarantees it survives a one-shot from full HP, useful on a more offensive lead.
- Clear Body — blocks stat-lowering effects from opponents, protecting its defenses from Intimidate and the like.
Purifying Salt is almost always the pick — its blanket status immunity is what defines Garganacl as a wall.
Best Moveset
Garganacl's job is to stay alive and apply pressure. The core support set is the standard:
Premier physical wall
- Salt Cure — its signature move; chips the target every turn and does extra damage to Water and Steel types, wearing down even the bulkiest opponents.
- Recover — restores half its HP, letting it outlast attackers.
- Protect — a doubles staple for scouting, stalling, and stacking Salt Cure chip safely.
- Iron Defense — pushes its already-huge Defense to absurd levels, turning it into a near-unbreakable physical wall.
Other useful tools in its kit include Stealth Rock and Wide Guard for team support, Earthquake, Stone Edge and Rock Slide for Rock/Ground STAB, the elemental punches (Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch) for coverage, plus Helping Hand and Substitute.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Garganacl wants to maximise its bulk. Pour points into HP and Special Defense so it walls both sides of the table — its 130 Defense barely needs help — and use a defensive Stat Alignment that boosts a defense while lowering its unused Special Attack or Speed. Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Garganacl is the format's benchmark physical wall and a premier staller. Purifying Salt's total status immunity means it ignores will-o-wisp, thunder wave and spore that would neuter most defensive Pokemon, while Salt Cure plus Recover and Protect creates a passive damage engine that beats slow, bulky cores on its own. It thrives on balance and Trick Room teams, where its low Speed is an asset, and pairs well with partners who appreciate a teammate that soaks up physical attacks and removes the opponent's longevity one tick at a time.
Evolution Line
Nacli → Naclstack (Level 24) → Garganacl (Level 38). Garganacl does not Mega Evolve.
