Espathra in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Best Moveset & How to Get
Espathra is a fast special attacker in Pokemon Champions defined by its hidden ability Speed Boost, which turns a Calm Mind + Stored Power game plan into a snowballing win condition. With 101 Special Attack and 105 base Speed before boosts, it sits among the format's scarier setup threats. This guide covers Espathra's stats, type matchups, abilities, best moveset, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
Espathra has a clean offensive profile: 101 Special Attack and 105 Speed give it both power and a strong base speed tier, backed by a usable 95 HP. The defenses are flat (60/60), so it relies on speed control and setup rather than raw bulk. Speed Boost makes the already-high 105 Speed climb out of range of almost the entire field after a single turn.

| Espathra | 95 | 60 | 60 | 101 | 60 | 105 | 481 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Opportunist — copies any stat boost an opponent gains, so a foe's Swords Dance or Nasty Plot also buffs Espathra. Strong against setup-heavy teams.
- Frisk — reveals an opponent's held item on entry; pure information utility.
- Speed Boost — raises Speed one stage at the end of every turn. This is the build-around: behind Protect it climbs untouchable while Calm Mind and Stored Power escalate its damage.
Best Moveset
Espathra's notable tools center on a Speed Boost setup plan plus practical support moves:
Speed Boost setup sweeper
- Calm Mind — raises Special Attack and Special Defense; pairs with Stored Power's scaling.
- Stored Power — gains 20 power per stat boost, so Calm Mind plus Speed Boost stages quickly make it devastating.
- Protect — safely banks a Speed Boost stage and stalls Tailwind or Trick Room turns.
- Substitute — blocks status and redirection while you climb.
Special pivot
- Expanding Force / Psychic / Psyshock — STAB; Expanding Force becomes a spread move under Psychic Terrain.
- Dazzling Gleam or Shadow Ball — coverage for Dark and Ghost.
- U-turn — pivot to keep momentum and preserve a Speed Boost setup attempt.
- Helping Hand / Trick Room / Reflect / Light Screen — supportive options it also carries.
Other learnset picks include Hyper Voice, Energy Ball, Flash Cannon, Foul Play, Brave Bird, Zen Headbutt and Tera Blast.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), Espathra wants Special Attack and Speed for the sweeper build, leaning on Speed Boost to escalate further; an offensive Stat Alignment (boost SpA or Speed) refines it. A bulkier Stored Power build can shift points into HP so it survives long enough to set up. Dial in the exact Level 50 numbers in the team builder.
Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Espathra is a setup sweeper that snowballs out of control if left unchecked. Behind Protect or Substitute it accrues Speed Boost stages until it outspeeds the whole field, then Calm Mind turns Stored Power into a one-Pokemon win condition. Its flat 60/60 defenses mean it must be played carefully — it wants redirection support or a Fake Out lead to buy the free setup turns, and a Tailwind or Trick Room partner is less necessary because it generates its own speed. As a straight pivot it is competent, but the reason to bring Espathra is the threat of a Speed Boost + Stored Power line that can flip a game on its own.
