Charizard in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Mega X & Y, Moveset & How to Get
Charizard is one of the few Pokemon in Pokemon Champions with two distinct Mega Evolutions, and they play completely differently. Mega Charizard Y is a special attacker that sets its own sun with Drought, while Mega Charizard X is a Fire/Dragon physical sweeper with Tough Claws and Dragon Dance. This guide covers both, plus stats, matchups, movesets, an SP spread and how to get it.
Base Stats
Both Megas share a 634 BST but split it differently: Mega Charizard X (Tough Claws) becomes Fire/Dragon with 130 Attack and 130 Special Attack, while Mega Charizard Y (Drought) stays Fire/Flying and pushes Special Attack to a huge 159. The base form's 100 Speed and 109 Special Attack are already respectable.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Charizard | 78 | 84 | 78 | 109 | 85 | 100 | 534 |
| Mega Charizard (Tough Claws) | 78 | 130 | 111 | 130 | 85 | 100 | 634 |
| Mega Charizard (Drought) | 78 | 104 | 78 | 159 | 115 | 100 | 634 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Blaze (Charizard) — powers up Fire moves at low HP.
- Solar Power (Charizard) — boosts Special Attack in sun at the cost of HP each turn; strong on a sun team before Mega Evolving.
- Tough Claws (Mega X) — boosts contact moves like Flare Blitz and Dragon Claw by 30%.
- Drought (Mega Y) — summons harsh sunlight on entry, powering up the whole team's Fire moves and enabling Chlorophyll partners.
Best Moveset
Mega Charizard Y — sun special attacker
- Heat Wave — spread Fire STAB, doubled by its own Drought sun.
- Hurricane or Air Slash — Flying STAB.
- Solar Beam or Focus Blast — coverage; Solar Beam is instant under sun.
- Protect — doubles staple.
Mega Charizard X — Dragon Dance sweeper
- Dragon Dance — +1 Attack and Speed to snowball.
- Flare Blitz — Tough Claws-boosted Fire STAB.
- Dragon Claw — Dragon STAB.
- Earthquake or Thunder Punch — coverage.
Other useful tools include Tailwind, Will-O-Wisp, Roost, Helping Hand and Tera Blast.
Suggested SP Spread
With the SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat):
- Mega Y: invest in Special Attack and Speed, with a SpA- or Speed-boosting Stat Alignment; a little bulk helps it survive priority.
- Mega X: Attack and Speed so a single Dragon Dance outruns the field; the rest into bulk.

Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Mega Y is a premier sun lead: Drought immediately powers up Fire-type partners and Heat Wave pressures both opponents at once, making it a backbone of sun teams. Mega X is a self-sufficient win condition — Dragon Dance plus Tough Claws Flare Blitz cleans late-game, and the Fire/Dragon typing dodges the crippling 4× Rock weakness. Pick Y for team support and spread damage, X for a setup sweeper.
Evolution Line
Charmander → Charmeleon (Level 16) → Charizard (Level 36). Charizard Mega Evolves into X with Charizardite X, or Y with Charizardite Y.
