Aegislash in Pokemon Champions: Stats, Stance Change & How to Get
Aegislash is one of the most distinctive Pokemon in Pokemon Champions: a Steel/Ghost-type whose Stance Change ability lets it swap between a near-impregnable Shield Forme and a devastating Blade Forme on demand. It defends like a wall and then hits like a glass cannon, all in the same turn cycle. This guide covers Aegislash's stats, its forme mechanic, type matchups, best moves, an SP spread, its role in Regulation M-A doubles, and how to get it.
Base Stats
The 60/140/140 spread shown is Shield Forme — colossal physical and special bulk on a frail 60 HP. Stance Change inverts those defenses into offense the moment Aegislash uses an attacking move, so the same Pokemon swings between a wall and a 140-Attack/140-Special-Attack threat. Speed is a flat 60 in both formes, which is why it appreciates Trick Room or Tailwind support.
| Form | HP | Atk | Def | SpA | SpD | Spe | BST |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aegislash | 60 | 50 | 140 | 50 | 140 | 60 | 500 |
Type Matchups
Abilities
- Stance Change — Aegislash sits in Shield Forme (140 Defense / 140 Special Defense) by default and flips to Blade Forme (140 Attack / 140 Special Attack) when it uses an attacking move, reverting to Shield when it uses King's Shield. This is the entire identity of the Pokemon: it tanks a hit in Shield, then strikes from Blade, using King's Shield to drop back to defense before the opponent can punish the squishy offensive forme.
Best Moveset
Aegislash is a STAB-and-protect attacker. The trick is alternating between a hit and a defensive reset so it never sits exposed in Blade Forme.
Stance Change tank-breaker
- Iron Head — reliable physical Steel STAB with a flinch chance, the bread-and-butter Blade move.
- Shadow Ball or Shadow Sneak — Ghost STAB; Shadow Sneak gives priority to pick off weakened targets without ever leaving Blade vulnerable for long.
- Swords Dance — a single boost off 140 Attack is often game-ending.
- Protect — doubles staple; doubles as a turn to safely return to Shield Forme.
Coverage and utility options include Flash Cannon for a special Steel STAB, Close Combat and Rock Slide for coverage, Wide Guard to block spread moves, plus Iron Defense, Air Slash and Substitute.
Suggested SP Spread
With the Champions SP system (66 points, max 32 per stat), most Aegislash builds invest in HP (its only real bulk weakness) and the offensive stat they intend to use, with a Speed-lowering Stat Alignment if you plan to run it under Trick Room. The bulk it needs in Shield Forme comes from the ability, so the points are best spent shoring up HP and pushing damage. Dial it in with the team builder.
Competitive Role in Regulation M-A
Aegislash is a tank-breaker that demands prediction from both players. In Shield Forme it eats hits that would flatten most attackers; the moment it commits to an attack it threatens an OHKO range that few walls can match, and King's Shield lets it reset and even punish a contact attacker who tries to capitalise. Its flat 60 Speed is the catch — left to natural speed it moves in the middle of the order, so it shines under Trick Room (acting first while still tanky) or with Tailwind support. Shadow Sneak gives it a way to deal priority damage without lingering in the fragile Blade Forme, making it a flexible answer to setup sweepers and a constant mind-game for the opponent.
Evolution Line
Honedge → Doublade (Level 35) → Aegislash (use a Dusk Stone). Aegislash does not Mega Evolve.
